Last summer one of my grandmas turned 90. Obviously I couldn't pass up the opportunity to knit something extra fancy to mark the occasion! I knew I wanted a big lace shawl in her favourite colour, and after combing through Ravelry for (probably) hours, I kept coming back to Glenna C's Lakeshore Shawl. During the summer I moved to Peterborough, my favourite LYS ran a KAL for this shawl and I arrived much too late to play along, but seeing her shop sample was a constant inspiration and source of knitting lust. After picking up a skein of Handmaiden's Mini Maiden in a beautiful red (possibly Ruby?) at Romni Wools, I was off to the races.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish in time for her birthday celebrations, but it made it to her a couple of months late. I blame the knitted-on edging which, while beautiful, took me forever to get through. This is a big shawl! That's a lot of edging!
In the end, I was pretty thrilled with the shawl. The pattern was well-written and interesting to knit; not too complicated but still engaging. I'd really like to knit this pattern again for myself!
